The Love Story

The Love Story began in 1913 when Ernest and Alvena Uebersax were married in April of that year.  Soon after they started their first bakery on Columbia Ave now Washington Boulevard.  When their daughter and two sons were young they moved the Uebersax Bakery to Oliver and Montford Ave.  Their family was growing and so was their bakery.  In 1927 , they moved to Fenwick ave; and a son and daughter were born there.  In 1952, Ernest and Alvena retired and their eldest son, Walter, became President of the Fenwick Bakery.  His brother Edward was the head baker and ran the shop using most of his dad's original recipes.  Marta worked for years serving Fenwick customers.  Fenwick's wedding cakes have been enjoyed by 3 generations.  We make lots of 25th and 50th Anniversary cakes who purchased their wedding cakes at Fenwick.  This must be proof that Fenwick customers are happier and healthier.  In 1971, the bakery moved to its present location at 7219 Harford Road.  Now that Walter, Edward, and Marta have retired, Michael Meckel in the President.  He is the head baker and has been a Fenwick employee for over 20 years.  Claudette Wilson is another loyal Fenwick employee.  She owns the other half of the business and is the head decorator.  She has been at Fenwick for over 40 years.  Michael and Claudette use the same recipes and have the same goals as Ernest and Alvena.  Everything sold at Fenwick is baked on the premises.  While adhering to these wonderful goals, Fenwick has added some modern concepts.  As well as the traditional pound, Fenwick offers chocolate, marbic, amaretto, lemon, orange, spice and carrot dough.  In season, Strawberry shortcake is also offered.
